Creating Prop Designs that Elevate the Mood of a Project
At Frictional Games I created a lot of art for Amnesia and its alien “Dark World”
The client wanted the Dark World to feel imperialistic, unforgiving and imposing. Just like the Egyptian Sphinx was built to awe and command respect; so I mixed Soviet Union, Ancient Egyptian architecture, brutalism and voodoo cultures and more… to convey those feelings.
Individual Curation and Taste
I picked references I knew were designed with this in mind… or that made me feel that way. Like a new vocabulary created from feelings, where words couldn’t go.
The challenge was to translate this creative brief to images, symbols, patterns and colors.
