Creature Design for Science-Fiction
Project: Alien Exoskeletons
Synopsis
A creative personal project to attempt designing science fiction that would be both organic and sci-fi.
Elongated limbs as well as using paramilitary color palettes would suggest both the faction these beings are aligned with, as well as hint at the amount of gravity in the environment they live in.

The Goal
Achieve both believable and good-looking results, would be the best balance for these. It was never an easy process and while the software was the same I used for other projects, the aesthetics had to be re-invented, or so I thought.

Storytelling through Visuals
Mood boards and reference collecting were a big part of the project, to make sure something looks alien but also grounded to something we've seen before, otherwise, it may end up so alien that the audience doesn't recognize the subject, or worse, it won't relate to it. —

Sketching & Brainstorming.
Iterative Process
After a rapid generation of ideas with 2D processes, it was time to turn into digital sculpting and test even more iterations of busts and bodies. By mere accident, I found that I could just overlap a few of these sculpts on top of one another to give birth to new shapes, moods, and ideas, the juxtaposition sculptures were very reverent to a dadaist approach to sculpting in Zbrush.
